Curve won't apply any fees when spending in the currency your underlying payment card is set to! However, it's important to always check with the merchant to ensure that you don't encounter any hidden fees from them.
❗️Please be aware of fees from your card issuer when making cash withdrawals, as we pass through Merchant Category Code (MCC) information to your card issuer - so they can see where you're spending and if you've withdrawn cash.
❗️ Please note, making changes to your subscription won’t reset your fee-free spending. Any spending you’ve already done will count toward your new fee-free spending limit.

International Funding Card (IFC) fees
As Curve operates within the UK and the EEA, an international payment card is any card issued outside those regions.
Traditionally, Curve covered the cost of any transactions made using an international payment card, but it is not sustainable for us to continue to do so as our business grows.
We want to continue to allow these types of transactions with your Curve card, rather than simply blocking them, which means we will now be charging a small fee on each transaction made using an international payment card.
Here's a breakdown of the fees and fee-free limit based on your Curve account type:
Subscription tier | Fee |
Curve Pay ![]() | No fee-free spend - 2.9% fee on every transaction |
Curve Pay X
| No fee-free spend - 2.9% fee on every transaction |
Curve Pay Pro
| Free up to £1,000 per calendar month - then a 2.9% fee on every transaction thereafter |
Curve Pay Pro+
| Free up to £5,000 per calendar month - then a 2.9% fee on every transaction thereafter |
❗️Please note if an international payment card fee is applied to a transaction that is then fully refunded, the fee will not be returned to you as it initially covered the cost to process the transaction.
It's important to bear in mind that you may also face increased fees if using an international payment card for FX or Fronted transactions.
Commercial / Business Card fees
A commercial card is a business card issued to a business or a self-employed person which is only used for business expenses.
Previously we restricted our free customers from adding and using their commercial cards on our Curve Lite tier as it was not sustainable for us to continue to cover the cost of commercial cards as our business grows.
However, we want to enable these cards with the Curve card for all users, rather than simply blocking them - which means we will now be charging a small fee on each transaction made using a commercial payment card. If you only use personal cards on your account, you will not be charged any fees.
Here's a breakdown of the fees and fee-free limit based on your Curve account type:
Subscription tier | Personal account | Business account |
Curve Pay
| 1.5% fee on all transactions made using a commercial card | No fees |
Curve Pay X
| 1.5% fee on all transactions made using a commercial card | No fees |
Curve Pay Pro
| 1.5% fee on all transactions made using a commercial card | No fees |
Curve Pay Pro+
| £1500 fee-free limit per calendar month with a 1.5% fee thereafter | No fees |
Customers with Curve business accounts on all tiers will not incur any commercial card fees. If you wish to switch to a business account you can do so in the app:
Go into the "Wallet" section of the app and select "Enable business cards"
Select "Self-Employed" or "Contractor/Sole Trader"
Tap on "Get a Curve Business card"
Confirm your shipping address
Your business account is now ready to use!
Please note you'll need to agree with the terms associated with a business account.
❗️It's important to know you can also incur multiple fees in addition to the commercial card fees, such as International card fees, FX fees and Fronted transaction fees.
❗️If a commercial card fee is applied to a transaction that is then fully refunded, the fee will not be refunded to you as it initially covered the cost to process the transaction.
High Risk MCC Fee
As of the 13th of July 2024, you'll be able to use your Curve card to pay merchants that may otherwise be blocked due to the perceived high-risk associated with processing these transactions (for example, due to higher chargeback volumes).
If you use your Curve card to make a transaction with one of the Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) listed in the table below, you'll be charged a service fee of 1%. They are mostly associated with gambling payments, dating services and wholesale purchases of precious stones.
| Merchant Category Code | Merchant Description |
| 5094 | Precious Stones and Metals, Watches and Jewellery |
| 5933 | Pawn Shops |
| 5966 | Direct Marketing—Outbound Telemarketing Merchants |
| 6051 | Quasi Cash Merchant |
| 6211 | Securities—Brokers/Dealers |
| 7273 | Dating services |
| 9406 | Government-owned Lottery (Specific Countries) |

| 7800 | Government Owned Lottery (U.S. Region Only) |
| 7801 | Internet Gambling (U.S. Region Only) |
| 7802 | Government Licensed Horse/Dog Racing (U.S. Region Only) |
| 7995 | Gambling Transactions |
| 9754 | Non face-to-face gambling, betting, and casino |
❗️Please be aware that Curve does not override any issuer's controls and we only enable transactions within specific merchant categories if your original card permits these purchases - if your card issuer does not support these transactions, Curve will not process them.
