We’re excited that you're interested in opening an account with us and we appreciate you choosing Curve to gain financial freedom!

## **How to create a Curve account**

You can open an account with us if:

* You live in the UK or EEA

*   You're 18 or older

* You have the legal ability to enter into a contract

You can't open an account if:

* You're doing it on someone else's behalf

* You already have an account with us

* There’s any legal reason we can’t grant you one, or if we’ve previously closed an account due to suspicious activity

If you do open an account for someone else, you'll be responsible for any losses that come from it.

We may need to ask for extra info when you're signing up or later on. This is to help us prevent financial crimes and follow anti-fraud and sanctions regulations. We follow the “Know Your Customer” principle to do this, which means we collect information to understand your payment habits, sources of income, detect unusual activities and have up to date identity documents to help keep your account secure.

If the info you provide doesn’t meet our requirements, your account could be delayed, rejected, suspended, or closed. For more on how we use your info, check out our [Privacy Policy](https://www.curve.com/en-gb/legal/privacy/).

Please keep your details up to date and let us know right away if anything changes!

## **Types of Curve accounts**

When you set up your Curve account, you’ll be asked your **Employment Type**. Which option you pick determines which type of Curve Card you’ll receive.

If you’re going to use Curve for personal spending, select:

*   Employee

If you’re going to use Curve for business spending, select:

*   Entrepreneur or Business Owner
*   Director or Business Owner
*   Freelancer / Self-employed
*   Other

If you choose to upgrade to Curve Pay Pro or Curve Pay Pro+, we’ll issue your card based on your chosen Employment Type at signup.

### **Switching from a business card to a personal card**

If you use Curve for personal spend, you can request a personal card from us at any time**.** In doing so, we’ll also move your Employment Type to “Employee”.

### **Switching from a personal card to a business card**

If you’d like to request a Business card, you can chat with us directly in the Curve app and we’ll be happy to look into this for you!

We may ask you to provide documentation along with a Companies House number (if you’re in the UK) to show that you’re the owner or director of a business. Please note that you should use the card only for business transactions rather than personal ones.

### **Checks for our business card customers**

It’s worth noting that we're required to run occasional checks to ensure our customers are using their cards for business transactions.

As such, **you should only opt for a business card if you’re the owner or director of a business that’s registered** with Companies House in the UK, or you can prove you’re a business director or owner if you’re in the EEA and you use the card for business transactions only. Or, if you’re self-employed.

As per the Curve Terms (see [here](https://www.curve.com/en-gb/legal/terms/), section “General Information”):

“_From time to time, we may request further information from you, to check if you still need a business account. If Curve for any reason determines that your account type has changed, Curve will issue you a replacement card._”
